The second VPA tank crew included Capt. Phung Anh Cuong (commander), Lieut. Capt. Pham Van Anh (gunner) and Lieut. Capt. Chu Van Tung (driver).

Entering the competition at the Alabino training ground in the outskirt of Moscow, the crew seemed to face problems with the main cannon as their first salvos all had low trajectories, hitting the mound in front of the target.

However, with the enthusiastic cheers of the Vietnamese people in Russia, the crew members remained patient, urgently getting out of the tank and loading the second salvos before shooting down four of the five targets with the main artillery.

The VPA crew completed the track in 31min23sec, thus ranking fourth behind the crews from Mongolia (26min20sec), Syria (29min24sec) and Venezuela (30min24sec).

Given the second crew’s result, the VPA’s tank team still managed to maintain their second place in Group 1 with a total time of 56min21sec, only behind Mongolia (50min17sec). Third and fourth place went to Venezuela (62min19sec) and Syria (68min59sec).

The VPA’s Tank Crew No. 3 will enter the qualifying round on August 29, with their result to play a decisive role in determining the VPA tank team’s chance to advance to the semifinals.

The International Army Games 2021 is taking place from August 22 to September 4, featuring the participation of 275 teams from 42 countries and territories worldwide competing across 34 categories.

The latest event marks the fourth consecutive year that the VPA has taken part in the international-level military multisport event.
