The dual sport athlete has his third gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games after winning the cycling road men's H4 road race at Fuji International Speedway.

It comes a day after he won the men's H4 time trial (Tuesday August 31) and just three days after defending hismen's PTWC triathlon (Sunday August 29) title.

It was a dream come true for the Amsterdam-native, who before the Paralympic Games, had spoken about his desires to win three gold medals at Tokyo 2020.

Despite the rainy and foggy conditions towards the end of the race, Plat finished the 79.2km course in a time of 2:15:13 - almost six minutes ahead of the silver medallist Austria's Thomas Fruehwirth with his teammate Alexander Gritsch taking bronze.

The 30-year-old dominated the road race, never leaving the lead pack of riders. At the 26.4km mark, it was Plat and Fruehwirth in the lead before the Dutch athlete broke away with 30km to the finish line. He betters his finish from five years ago at Rio 2016 where he finished with a bronze in the same event.

It was a big afternoon for Dutch cyclist at Fuji International Speedway, taking three gold medals and a bronze across the six time road races including Mitch Valize (gold - men's H5), Time de Vries (bronze - men's H5) andf Jennette Jansen (gold - women's H1-4).

Jansen won gold in the women's H1-4 road race at the Fuji Speedway International following her bronze medal in the women's H4-5 on Tuesday August 31.

Jansen won what can be considered one the most closely-fought battles at Tokyo 2020 after crossing the finish line with a time of 56.15 to win gold - just six seconds ahead of Germany's Annika Zeyen, who took silver.

With two medals at Tokyo 2020, the Para cyclist also hits a career milestone. Jansen now has 10 Paralympic medals in at seven Paralympic Games - only missing London 2012 - and three sports including Para athletics, wheelchair basketball and Para cycling.
