China have collected 68 gold, 43 silver and 36 bronze medals so far, thus keeping a safe distance from second place, held by the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC) delegation.

The RPC had an excellent day as they won seven more gold medals, bringing their total to 32 golds, thereby rising to second place and pushing the UK delegation to third with 30 golds.

Thanks to their dominance in track cycling, the Netherlands jumped three places to 5th position with 19 golds.

On the day, Paralympians set five new world records and two new Paralympic records in athletics out of the total of 14 golds awarded in the events.

In particular, the Thai track and field team brought home two gold medals and a Paralympic record.

Many swimming events also entered the finals on September 1 with 15 gold medals awarded, including four new world records and four new Paralympic records.

The Chinese table tennis team had a successful day as they won tickets to 10 finals from 20 semis.

For Vietnam, swimmer Vo Thanh Tung was unsuccessful in defending his silver won in Rio 2016 in the men's 50m freestyle S5 as he only ranked 6th of 7 in his heat with a time of 35:91 and did not enter the final.

Paralympian Nguyen Thi Hai will compete in the women's shot put F57 final on the morning of September 2, marking Vietnam's final event at Tokyo 2020.
