The decision was made following a meeting between Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung and representatives of the Hanoi government.

The Games will take place mainly in Hanoi, along with several other nearby provinces and cities, including Bac Ninh, Hai Duong, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Hoa Binh, Vinh Phuc and Bac Giang.

The organisers have also proposed some backup locations in case of any unexpected situation due to COVID-19.

In the coming months, the Hanoi government will work with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the agencies concerned to make plans for the opening ceremony.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will also cooperate with the Ministry of Health to make sure the 31st SEA Games will take place in a safe manner and be in line with COVID-19 prevention guidelines.
