Two Vietnamese doctors honoured with AFC Medical Awards

Two Vietnamese doctors, Nguyen Trong Hien and Pham Thi Thuy, have been named among the winners of the third Medical Awards of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), according to the AFC’s announcement on January 6.

The Vietnamese medical officers were honoured for dedicating more than 15 years of service to football.

Accordingly, Dr. Nguyen Trong Hien is one of the seniors of sports medicine in Vietnam with many valuable contributions and great dedication. He worked as doctor of the national men's football team from 1995 to 2012.

He is currently Head of Sports Medicine Department under the National Sports Training Centre.

Meanwhile, Dr. Pham Thi Thuy was the doctor of the national women's football team for 18 years, from 2000 to 2018. She also held the role of Deputy Head of Outpatient Department of the Vietnam Sports Hospital.

The AFC Medical Awards aims to acknowledge the efforts and work by Team Doctors and Team Physiotherapists in providing the best care possible to the players to facilitate the optimisation of their performance level.

It also recognises the contribution of these medical professionals towards development of the game of football while serving as an inspiration to others to continue their involvement in football at all levels.

This year’s awards will be presented to the winners during a ceremony during the 7th Asian Football Medicine Congress, which is set to take place in Qatar from March 6 to 10.
