This is Nam’s career best – following his promotion to 1,035th place on September 21 – and also the highest world rating ever achieved by a Vietnamese tennis player.

Nam is the first Vietnamese player to successfully conquer the ATP’s top 1000 so far. Do Minh Quan was the closest previously to the list with his 1,002nd ranking in 2006.

Nam’s promotion on the world rankings is attributed to his outstanding performance recently in Cambodia where he made the semifinals of the F2 Futures and the second round of the F3 Futures tournament.

The 18-year-old star will not participate in any international competitions from now until the end of 2015. He will focus on training at his home-club Becamex Binh Duong before resuming international campaigns in mid-January.

Nam is targeting to enter the ATP’s top 500 players next year.
