Accordingly, after returning from the 2016 AFC Championship finals along with Vietnam’s U-23 team in late January, Phuong will depart for Japan to join Mito in preparation for the 2016 season.
The Nghe An-born striker will wear the no. 16 jersey at Mito and enjoy a monthly salary of about US$3,000, along with other bonuses.
Addressing the signing, Phuong expressed his delight to be a member of Mito, which he said was a great team with professional supporters.
Playing for a J2-League team would be a precious and meaningful experience in his football career, Phuong added.

Cong Phuong is the second player of Hoang Anh Gia Lai to be exported to Japan, after his teammate Tuan Anh, who signed a one-year contract with another J2-League club, Yokohama, on December 11.
