Meeting Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc before the event’s opening ceremony on the evening of September 24, the guests expressed their belief that the ABG5 would be a success and would contribute to the development of sport in Asia and the world.

Congratulating Vietnam on winning a gold shooting medal at the world’s largest sporting event—the 2016 Rio Olympics, they said investing in sport also helped popularise the country’s image and economic potential, especially in tourism.

They pledged to work side by side with Vietnam on athlete training and policy consultation in the field.

The PM, for his part, expressed his wish that the IOC and OCA would offer financial and manpower assistance to Vietnam, especially in developing suitable models to promote sports in schools and the community.

He asked them to offer advice on how to develop sport in Vietnam’s situation, helping the country integrate into the region and the world.
