Vietnam’s international badminton tournament to attract 15 countries and territories

NDO—The 2016 Kawasaki Vietnam International Series is scheduled to kick off on September 28 in the northern province of Bac Ninh with the participation of nearly 200 badminton players from fifteen countries and territories around the world.

The event is being held by the Vietnam Badminton Federation (VBF) in collaboration with the Bac Ninh Province Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The tournament brings together nearly 200 players from countries and territories strong in the sport, such as Sweden, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia, India, the UK and Chinese Taipei, among others.

According to VBF Vice President and General Secretary Le Thanh Sang, who is also deputy head of the organising board, the tournament offers opportunities for Vietnamese athletes to hone their skills by competing with strong rivals from countries and territories worldwide, while at the same time helping them to accumulate points to progress in the world rankings by the Badminton World Federation (BWF).

Hosts Vietnam are sending a strong squad to the competition, including two top Vietnamese badminton players, Nguyen Tien Minh in men’s singles and Vu Thi Trang in women’s singles. The pair are also top seeded at the tournament.

In the doubles event, Vietnam is also debuting a strong lineup, including male pair Duong Bao Duc and Bao Minh (No. 2 seeded in the tournament), female pair Vu Thi Trang and Nguyen Thi Sen (No. 2 seeded) and mix doubles Do Tuan Duc and Pham Nhu Thao (top seeded).

According to the organisers, preparations for the tournament have finished, meeting the requirements of the BWF.

Competitors will join in the men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles with knockout regulations applied. The winners will walk away with a total prize of US$6,000.

The tournament will last until October 2. All matches are open to spectators.
