Vietnam resumes top position on ABG medal table

Vietnam reclaimed the top position of the ongoing 5th Asian Beach Games (ABG 5) in Da Nang city after winning an additional nine gold, five silver and five bronze medals on the third official day of competition, September 27.

Vietnam earned the first gold of the day in the sport of sepak takraw when the host players easily overcame Myanmar opponents 21-9, 21-15 in the women’s trio decisive match.

Athletics added two gold medals to Vietnam’s tally thanks to Le Tu Chinh in the women’s 60m sprint (7.60 seconds) and Bui Thu Thao in the women’s long jump (6.32 metres).

Kurash fighters secured two gold medals for Vietnam as Nguyen Thi Huong and Nguyen Thi Lan clinched the overall victories in the women’s 63kg and 70kg events respectively.

Pencak silat artists Thu Ha and Anh Nguyet contributed another gold in the women’s Ganda discipline, while the remaining three titles of the hosts were won in shuttlecock.

Vietnam’s jujitsu team won a silver and a bronze medal, wrapping up their ABG 5 campaign on September 27.

Concerning the men’s beach football event, Vietnam finished second in Group A after losing 0-2 to leaders Thailand, which awarded them a quarterfinal clash with Group B leaders Lebanon on September 29.

As of 9.30pm on September 27, Vietnam topped the medal tally with 18 gold, 17 silver and 23 bronze, ahead of Thailand (18, 12, 15) and China (6, 6, 11).
