Vietnam runners-up at world junior Kurash championship

NDO—Vietnam ended up in second place at the recent 2016 World Junior Kurash Championship in India, bringing home a total of two gold, three silver and one bronze medals.

The Southeast Asian team’s success came in the women’s weight categories, with To Thi Trang and Tran Thi Thanh Thuy finishing first in the 48kg and over-78kg classes.

The silver medals were won by Do Thu Ha in the 48kg event, Le Thi Tinh in the 57kg discipline and Do Thi Hoai Uyen in the 78kg category.

Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh accounted for Vietnam’s solitary bronze after ranking third in the 51kg class.

Notably, Vietnam’s Tran Thi Thanh Thuy was honoured as the best female player in the tournament following her convincing victories in all the three matches of the over-78 competition, including the final against Indian opponent Tulika Maan.

Uzbekistan topped the medal tally, while Iran, strong in the men’s events, came in third place with two gold and three silver medals.

The championship, the eighth of its kind, brought together 250 Kurash wrestlers representing nineteen countries and territories around the world, including Iran, Australia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the US, Vietnam, England, Chinese Taipei, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
