SEA Games: Vietnam remain in second place

The Vietnamese team bagged seven more gold, five silver and nine bronze medals on the seventh official day of the SEA Games 29, August 26, to retain second place in the competition’s medal tally.

As of 11.06am today, the Vietnamese team has won a total of 51 gold, 34 silver and 44 bronze, medals.

On August 27, 34 sets of medals will be awarded. After finishing the 2 ‘gold mines’ of sporting events - swimming and athletics, the Vietnamese Sports Team will expect gold medals from the Taekwondo and Judo competitions.

Although unsuccessful in defending the silver medal, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team tried their utmost at the 29th SEA Games, defeating the Philippines team to win a bronze medal.

Taekwondo athlete Pham Thi Thu Hien defeated Nurul Roslan (Malaysia) 31-10 to qualify for the semi-final, in the under-57kg weight category, against Laos boxer Souksamay Phenkhamonh.

In the women's 62kg event, Ha Thi Nguyen met Pauline Lopez in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Ly Hong Phuc beat the Laos athlete to qualify for the semi-finals in the men’s under-74kg category.

In the women's doubles sepak takraw event, the Vietnamese pair successfully beat their strong rivals from Myanmar 2-0 (21-19 and 21-18) to qualify for the final round against Thailand.
