Tennis: Top seed Pliskova withdraws from Prague Open

Czech Republic's Karolina Pliskova has withdrawn from this week's Prague Open and will be replaced by Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the main draw.

The world number six was the top seed in Prague and was scheduled to face twin sister Kristyna Pliskova in the first round of their home tournament on Tuesday (May 1). Former world number one Pliskova beat American CoCo Vandeweghe to win her first title of the year at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix on Sunday.

* FIFA began talks on Monday over two new proposed competitions which could reshape international soccer and be worth billions of dollars to the global soccer body.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has put forward ambitious plans for a revamped version of the Club World Cup and a new global Nations League competition. The plans were discussed by representatives of the six continental confederations at a meeting at FIFA headquarters on Monday.

* FIFA named the first World Cup Video Assistant Referees (VARs) on Apr 30, with three Italians included in the 13-man list.

The selection of the officials, who are all active pitch referees, was based on their experience in using the VAR system which has been trialled in a number of competitions around the world, FIFA said in a statement. Serie A, the Bundesliga and the Primeira Liga are among the leagues which have used VAR this season.

* West Ham United must win at least one of their three remaining Premier League games to secure their top-flight status for next season, manager David Moyes has said. West Ham's 4-1 defeat by champions Manchester City on Sunday reignited relegation fears as the London outfit are three points and positions above 18th-placed Southampton, with as many league matches left in the campaign.

* Defending champions Myanmar beat host Brunei 1-0 here on Monday night to enter the 6th ASEAN Youth Football Tournament semifinals as Group A winner. Timor-Leste finished second in Group A. In Group B, the tournament favourite Singapore were stunned by Cambodia 1-0, but both advanced to the seimifinals. The top two finishers of each group advance to the semifinals.

* The 2018 ASEAN Football Federation U-16 Girls' Championship kicks off on Monday and will end on May 13 in Palembang, the provincial capital of Indonesia's South Sumatra province. Indonesia shares Group B with Thailand, Cambodia and Laos. Group A consists of Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines and Myanmar. This will be the third edition of the AFF U-16 Girls' Championship.

* Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane has said his side will look to attack Bayern Munich quickly in Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final second leg as they seek to remain on course for an unprecedented third consecutive European Cup. Real hold a 2-1 lead after the first leg in Germany last week, however the Frenchman insists the job is nowhere near complete.
