Vietnamese tennis ace Ly Hoang Nam continued to demonstrate steady form at the ongoing Vietnam F1 Futures tournament, as he brilliantly defeated Canadian Kelsey Stevenson on May 2, to book a place in the men’s singles quarterfinal stage.

Considered the favourite, Nam rapidly finished the first set with a resounding score of 6-1.

However, the second set developed surprisingly, as Stevenson made good use of his physical strength and powerful serves to beat the Vietnamese star 6-3.

Moving on to the decisive set, Nam demonstrated the superior form of the world no. 461 player by defeating the Canadian opponent, who is rated 1087th in the ATP ranking, with a score of 6-2 to seal an aggregate 2-1 triumph.

In the quarterfinals, Ly Hoang Nam will play world no. 998 Nishiwaki Kazuki (Japan).

In another match, young Vietnamese talent Nguyen Van Phuong crashed out of the tournament after losing 1-6, 4-6 to the Japanese no. 8 seed, Takashi Saito.

In the men’s doubles category, Hoang Nam paired up with his senior, Le Quoc Khanh, to overcome the second-seeded duo Yuichi Ito and Jumpei Yamasaki (Japan) with a score of 2-1 (4-6, 6-2, 10-2), thus advancing into the semifinals where they will meet the Indian competitors, Niki Kaliyanda and Abhinav Sanjeev.
