Soccer - Mexico fail to break down Wales

Mexico failed to turn possession and pressure into goals as they were held 0-0 by Wales in a World Cup warm-up at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California on Monday.

Mexico, who have been drawn in Group F alongside Germany, Sweden and South Korea at next month's tournament in Russia, created a host of chances but could not find a way past Wales goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey.

* Former fencer Stanislav Pozdnyakov was elected president of the Russian Olympic Committee on Tuesday as the country works to regain the trust of international sports bodies after a string of doping scandals. Pozdnyakov, who had served as the committee's first vice-president since 2016, led the Russian delegation at this year's Pyeongchang winter Olympics.

* French supermarket chain Carrefour said on Tuesday it would end its contracts as official sponsor of the French Football Federation and of the Tour de France, the world's most famous cycling race, from 2019.

* The International Cricket Council's Cricket Committee backed stricter punishments for ball-tampering but decided not to do away with the toss in test cricket during a two-day meeting which concluded in Mumbai on Tuesday.

* Mike Bryan says is ready to shut down one of the best doubles partnerships ever if twin brother Bob fails to recover from the hip injury that forced him to miss the French Open. The 40-year-old Americans have been inseparable since starting out in 1995, winning 16 Grand Slam titles together.

* Akira Nishino may only have one game in charge of the Japanese national team before he decides on the squad to take to the World Cup in Russia, but that isn't stopping him from possibly making significant changes to his line-up. The new boss wants to introduce a three man defence for Wednesday's home friendly against Ghana.
