Athletics - Jamaica's Carter loses CAS appeal

Nesta Carter, the 2013 world 100 metres bronze medallist, has lost his appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the International Olympic Committee's decision to strip him and his Jamaica men's sprint relay team mates of their gold medals from the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

* Former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has been appointed manager of Championship side Derby County, with the second-tier side announcing the 39-year-old had agreed to a three-year deal on Thursday (May 31).

* Peru captain Paolo Guerrero was cleared to play at the World Cup after a Swiss court agreed on Thursday to temporarily lift his doping suspension while it considered his appeal against a 14-month ban.

* Everton have named Portuguese Marco Silva as their manager, the Premier League club said on Thursday. The 40-year-old Silva, former manager of Watford and Hull City, takes over from Sam Allardyce who left Goodison Park at the end of last season.

* American Ronnie Baker upset compatriot Chris Coleman for the second time in a week when he beat the world championship silver medallist in the 100 metres at the Rome Diamond League meeting on Thursday. Baker, winner at the Eugene meeting last Saturday, set the fastest time this year as he won in 9.93 seconds ahead of Frenchman Jimmy Vicaut, the European record holder, and Italian Filippo Tortu.

* Iran's World Cup preparations were hit by a second cancellation of a friendly match ahead of next month's tournament in Russia. The Iranians were hoping to face Kosovo in Istanbul on Saturday, in a game which had been quickly organised after a scheduled friendly against Greece was cancelled.
