Premier League to turn to VAR from next season

Premier League clubs have agreed in principle to introduce video assistant referees (VAR) from the start of next season, they said on Thursday. The decision comes after contentious refereeing decisions overshadowed a 1-1 league draw between Southampton and Watford last weekend.

* The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system will be used from the quarter-finals of next year's Asian Cup, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) said on Thursday (Nov 15).

* English Premier League club Chelsea has said it is cooperating with a FIFA investigation into possible violations of the global soccer governing body's rules regarding the signing of foreign players under the age of 18.

* Chinese Taipei’s Lin Tzu-chi, a former weightlifting world record holder, has been banned for eight years for a doping offence by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), the tribunal said in a statement on Thursday (Nov 15).

* World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) President Sir Craig Reedie said on Thursday he was confident Russia would not miss a year-end deadline to hand over data from its suspended laboratory, a condition for its anti-doping agency (RUSADA) to stay accredited.

* Men's Tour chief Chris Kermode rejected suggestions of an ATP "land grab" when launching a new US$15 million team competition to start in Australia in January 2020.

* A new professional swimming event scheduled for Turin in December has been cancelled after world body FINA threatened sanctions against those taking part, the Italian federation said on Thursday. The swimswam.com website reported that organisers of the meet had failed to give FINA the required six months notice for international events.

* Roma revealed on Thursday (Nov 15) they will donate an initial sum of €150,000 (US$170,000) to the family of Liverpool fan Sean Cox who suffered a severe brain injury after being attacked by Roma supporters.
