Real Madrid complete 10-1 aggregate thrashing of Melilla

Real Madrid trounced third division side Melilla 6-1 in a Copa del Rey round of 32 second leg on Thursday, completing a 10-1 aggregate scoreline to ease into the last 16 of the competition.

* Brighton and Hove Albion's top-scorer Glenn Murray is a doubt for Saturday's Premier League trip to Burnley due to a shoulder injury, manager Chris Hughton said on Thursday. Murray scored his eighth goal of the season with a penalty in Brighton's 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace on Tuesday but the 35-year-old sustained the injury in a fall and was substituted in the first half.

* The president of the Peruvian Football Federation, Edwin Oviedo, was arrested on Thursday in connection with an influence-peddling probe involving a former Supreme Court justice. Prosecutors in Peru have accused Oviedo of giving former Supreme Court Justice Cesar Hinostroza cash and World Cup tickets in exchange for a court-ordered exclusion from a murder probe.

* Bournemouth could be without England midfielder Lewis Cook for up to nine months after he suffered a serious knee injury during his side's 2-1 Premier League win against Huddersfield Town on Tuesday.

* Visa has signed a seven-year deal with European soccer body UEFA to sponsor the women's game at all levels, they announced on Thursday.

* Authorities have cancelled this weekend's soccer match between St Etienne and Olympique de Marseille - two of France's biggest teams - as concerns mount that anti-government demonstrations this weekend could turn violent. The cancellation of the St Etienne-Marseille match follows similar decisions to scrap Monaco's local derby versus Nice and Saturday's Paris St Germain's match.

* Former world number one Amelie Mauresmo has turned her back on becoming France's new Davis Cup captain, opting instead to work with French player Lucas Pouille. A statement from the French Tennis Federation on Thursday confirmed the U-turn by the 39-year-old who had been named in June to become the first woman to captain the French team.

* Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas and sprinter Dina Asher-Smith were named sportsman and sportswoman of the year by Britain's Sports Journalists' Association on Thursday. Commonwealth Games winners England Netball were the team of the year, with the men's soccer team that reached the World Cup semi-finals in Russia only third and behind Europe's Ryder Cup golfers.

* Liverpool's England international defender Joe Gomez will be out of action for around 6 weeks after breaking his leg in his side's 3-1 win away to Burnley on Wednesday night. Gomez was carried off on a stretcher after just 23 minutes and on Thursday Liverpool confirmed on their official website that Gomez "sustained a fracture to the lower left leg."

* FC Barcelona have confirmed that their Brazilian winger Malcom will be out of action for a fortnight with a twisted right ankle he suffered while playing against Cultural Leonesa in the Copa del Rey.
