Llorente hat-trick helps Spurs crush Tranmere 7-0 in Cup

Tottenham Hotspur’s Fernando Llorente got a hat-trick as they chalked up their record competitive away win with the 7-0 thrashing of fourth-tier Tranmere Rovers in the opening game of the FA Cup third round at Prenton Park on Friday.

* Huddersfield Town have signed midfielder Jason Puncheon on loan from Crystal Palace for the rest of the season, the Premier League clubs said on Friday.

* Bournemouth have signed Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke on a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee, the Premier League side announced on Friday. Solanke made 21 league appearances for Juergen Klopp's side last season, scoring one league goal, but has not featured for the league leaders in the current campaign with a muscle issue keeping him out of their recent games.

* Angelique Kerber and Alexander Zverev cruised through their singles matches on Friday as Germany defeated Australia 2-1 to set up a Hopman Cup title clash with holders Switzerland. Kerber and Zverev will take on Roger Federer and Belinda Bencic on Saturday in a repeat of last year's final.

* Argentina great Diego Maradona is to continue as coach of Mexican side Dorados de Sinaloa for a second season, his agent Matias Morla said on Friday. Maradona, 58, took over at the struggling second division side in September and lifted them to the playoffs where they were beaten by Atletico San Luis.

* Former world number one Karolina Pliskova lost her way midway through a "strange" encounter with Ajla Tomljanovic on Friday, before recovering to blaze past the Australian 6-1 1-6 6-1 and into the Brisbane International semi-finals. In the men's draw, fourth-seeded Daniil Medvedev rallied to knock out another former champion in Milos Raonic to reach the last-four. Unseeded Tsonga defeated local favourite Alex De Minaur 6-4 7-6(2) to advance.

* Tottenham Hotspur have extended defender Toby Alderweireld's contract until 2020, the Premier League club said on Friday. The Belgium international's deal was set to expire at the end of the current season after which the 29-year-old centre back would have been able to leave the club for free in the close season.

* English-born Richard Pybus has been appointed interim head coach of West Indies cricket and will guide the team in a busy 2019 that includes the World Cup and a home series against England.

* Indonesia's U-22 national football team has set a target of qualifying for the Asian Football Confederation U-23 Championship in 2020, the Indonesian Football Association said here on Friday.

* Home hope Wang Yafan continued her run into semifinals after destroying Romanian Monica Niculescu 2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-1 in the quarterfinals of WTA Shenzhen Open on Friday. Wang will face top seed Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinal. The Belarusian managed to reach the last four after No. 5 seed Maria Sharapova was forced to retire in the second set of the quarterfinal, trailing 6-1, 4-2.

* UAE coach Alberto Zaccheroni on Friday showed full confidence that his team will win the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 opener against Bahrain on Saturday.
