Oldham came from a goal down to defeat struggling Premier League Fulham 2-1 away at Craven Cottage while minor league Barnet won 1-0 at four-times Cup winners Sheffield United. Manchester City recorded their biggest FA Cup victory for 51 years, thrashing Championship side Rotherham United 7-0.
* Olympique de Marseille crashed out the French Cup in sensational style on Sunday when fourth-division amateurs Andrezieux beat them 2-0 on a weekend of shocks for big clubs. Andrezieux's ground was so small that they moved the game to nearby Saint-Etienne but even without home advantage they were too good for their more illustrious opponents and won with a goal in each half.
* Australia made the worst possible start to the defence of their Asian Cup crown on Sunday as Graham Arnold's Socceroos were handed a 1-0 defeat by unfancied Jordan. The Australians, who won the title on home soil four years ago, dominated for long spells but were unable to find a way to cancel out Anas Bani Yaseen's 26th minute header in the Group B clash at Hazza bin Zayed Stadium.
* Notching up an historic win were Stephen Constantine's India side, who handed Thailand a surprise 4-1 thrashing with veteran striker Sunil Chhetri claiming a brace as he led his country to their first victory at the tournament in 55 years.
* Former Tottenham Hotspur trainee Shaquile Coulthirst said he wants Arsenal next in the FA Cup after his penalty earned minor league Barnet a shock third-round win at Championship high-flyers Sheffield United on Sunday. Coulthirst, 24. kept his cool to convert from the spot in the 21st minute at Bramall Lane and Barnet, managed by Darren Currie, nephew of former Sheffield United great and England international Tony, held on for a classic Cup upset.
* English football star Wayne Rooney was arrested in December at Dulles Airport outside Washington, D.C. for public intoxication, according to local police. Rooney, who has played for US soccer team D.C. United since last year, was booked into the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center on Dec. 16, on a charge of public intoxication stemming from an arrest by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police, but was released later the same day on a personal recognisance bond.
* Bournemouth striker Jermain Defoe has completed an 18-month loan switch to Scottish club Rangers in a move that reunites him with former England team mate Steven Gerrard who is the manager of the team, the Premier League side said on Sunday.
* Real Madrid have signed Spain Under-19 international forward Brahim Diaz from Manchester City on a six-and-a-half year deal, the European champions said on Sunday. Real announced the signing on their website barely an hour after their 2-0 home defeat by Real Sociedad, which left Santiago Solari's side fifth in the La Liga standings.
* Julia Goerges of Germany retained the WTA Auckland Classic title by beating Canada's teenager Bianca Andreescu on Sunday at Auckland, Australia. Goerges came from one-set down to nail down the match 2-6, 7-5, 6-1.
