Vietnam’s U22 team arrives in Cambodia for regional champs

Members of Vietnam’s U22 football team arrived at Cambodia’s Phnom Penh capital on February 15 to prepare to conquer the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U22 Youth Championship.

The regional football tourney is scheduled to take place from February 17-26.

Vietnam announced the 23-member squad for the tournament on February 14 evening. Hong Linh Ha Tinh football club has contributed the most players with six, followed by Hoang Anh Gia Lai club with five.

The teams are divided into two groups and will play in a round-robin format. The two best teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals. All the matches will take place at the Phnom Penh National Olympic Stadium.

In Group A, Vietnam will face the Philippines on February 17, Timor Leste on February 19 and Thailand two days later.

Group B includes Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar and Cambodia.

Speaking with reporters, head coach Nguyen Quoc Tuan said his team would reach the final.

All 16 matches of the 2019 AFF U22 Championship will be aired on VTV5 and VTV6.
