Vettel gets Ferrari off to strong start in F1 testing

Ferrari made a strong start to Formula One's pre-season testing on Monday with four-times world champion Sebastian Vettel saying he could not have hoped for a better day after setting the fastest time and doing the most laps (72).

* AS Roma had goalkeeper Robin Olsen to thank for a 2-1 win over lowly Bologna on Monday which kept them hot on the heels of AC Milan in the race for the Champions League next season.

* Squash legend Nicol David will be retiring at the end of the 2018/2019 tour season after spending more than 20 years representing Malaysia in the sport. David is an eight-time squash world champion and was ranked first in the world for 109 consecutive months.

* Paraguay have appointed former Celta Vigo, Sevilla and Athletic Bilbao coach Eduardo Berizzo as their new manager, the Paraguayan Football Association (APF) announced on Monday.

* Sporting's Portugal forward Nani has joined Major League Soccer team Orlando City SC on a three-year deal, the MLS club announced on Monday. The 32-year-old Nani, who won four Premier League titles with Manchester United, has joined on a free transfer after his contract with Sporting was terminated by mutual agreement.

* Qatar Open champion Elise Mertens was upset 5-7 6-4 7-5 by Chinese qualifier Zhu Lin after a battle lasting nearly three hours in the first round of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships on Monday.

* An Italian third division club which cobbled together a seven-man team and lost 20-0 on Sunday has been thrown out of the league. Pro Piacenza's first team squad and coaching staff refused to travel for the game at Cuneo due to unpaid wages, leaving the financially troubled team to start with six teenagers and a 39-year-old physiotherapist - the only players they could find.

* Kevin Durant scored 31 points and picked up the MVP award as Team LeBron rallied from a 20-point deficit to outgun Team Giannis 178-164 in the 2019 NBA All-Star Game on Sunday (Feb 17).

* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given Manchester United momentum thanks to his tactical acumen and past links to the club, and United should give him the manager's job on a permanent basis, club great Ryan Giggs has said.

* Indonesia's top football official, who has been in the job less than a month, was questioned by police Monday (Feb 18) over a match-fixing scandal that has rocked the Southeast Asian nation's domestic league. Driyono was questioned Monday over allegations he was involved in destroying evidence of match-fixing, national police spokesman Dedi Prasetyo said.

* Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery and central defender Jerome Boateng will not be available for the Germans' Champions League Round of 16 first leg at Liverpool on Tuesday, coach Niko Kovac said.

* The English Football League's (EFL) chief executive Shaun Harvey will stand down at the end of the current season, the EFL said in a statement on Monday. Harvey has been CEO of the body, which governs the three professional divisions below the Premier League, since 2013.
