Tennis: Barty beats Pliskova to win maiden Miami Open title

Ashleigh Barty defeated Karolina Pliskova 7-6(1) 6-3 on Saturday (Mar 30) to win her maiden Miami Open title and become the first Australian woman since 2013 to reach the top 10 in the world rankings.

* Sampdoria pounced on a glaring error by AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma in the first minute to beat Gennaro Gattuso's side 1-0 in an end-to-end Serie A match on Saturday.

* World champion Marc Marquez stormed to his 53rd career pole position at the Argentina MotoGP on Saturday (Mar 30) to stand just two off the all-time record of 55 held by bitter rival Valentino Rossi.

* Charles Leclerc celebrated the first Formula One pole position of his career in Bahrain on Saturday, and with it made Ferrari history. The 21-year-old Monegasque replaced Belgian Jacky Ickx (23 in 1968), as Ferrari's youngest pole-sitter.

* Olympique de Marseille's hopes of clinching a Champions League spot took a major blow on Saturday when they threw away a two-goal lead in a 2-2 home draw against Angers in Ligue 1.

* Thunder Snow became the first horse to win back-to-back US$12 million Dubai World Cup titles after a thrilling finish at Meydan Racecourse on Saturday. The Saeed bin Suroor-trained five-year-old won the prestigious race last year and repeated the feat with Belgian jockey Christophe Soumillon, scooping US$7.2 million in prize money in one of the world's richest horse races.

* Teenager Moise Kean scored three minutes after coming on as a substitute to give Juventus a 1-0 win over lowly Empoli after the runaway Serie A leaders had been jeered off at halftime on Saturday.

* Kenya's Hellen Obiri made athletics history on Saturday when she won the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Aarhus, Denmark, to become the first woman to lift world titles indoors, outdoors and at cross country.

* Paco Alcacer scored twice in stoppage time to give Borussia Dortmund a last-gasp 2-0 victory over VfL Wolfsburg and put them two points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table ahead of next week's big game against champions Bayern Munich, who stumbled to a 1-1 draw at Freiburg.

* Danish ace Viktor Axelsen overcame Indian veteran Parupalli Kashyap in straight games on Saturday (Mar 30) to set up a title clash with home favourite Kidambi Srikanth in India Open badminton.
