Inspired by the AFC Cup win over Myanmar’s Shan United a few days ago, manager Nguyen Thanh Son’s side headed into the home clash with strong confidence.

The former V.League champions played a dominant game in the first half, threatening to score twice as To Van Vu and Sy Giap forced Viettel goalie Quang The Tai to work hard for saves in the 22nd and 32nd minute, respectively.

Following several missed opportunities, Becamex Binh Duong eventually broke the deadlock six minutes after the hour mark, with Wander Luiz catching Sy Giap’s pass with his shoulder before lobbing the ball over the Viettel keeper.

With time running out, Viettel struggled to equalise the score, but failed to find the back of the net despite their concerted efforts. The 1-0 score remained unchanged until the last whistle.

The narrow victory lifted Becamex Binh Duong to fourth position in the standings, with seven points after four matches. Meanwhile, Viettel still stood at third from bottom with just three points.

Earlier, reigning champions Hanoi FC thrashed Song Lam Nghe An with four unanswered goals to move up to top spot with ten points, above Ho Chi Minh City on goal difference.
