Nhan Dan newspaper national table tennis tourney promises exciting and fierce matches

The 37th Nhan Dan Newspaper National Table Tennis Championship 2019 promises to be full of excitement and thrills as it offers an ideal opportunity to select outstanding players for the national teams in preparation for the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in the Philippines later this year.

As announced by the organising committee at a press conference in Hanoi on May 9, the annual tournament is scheduled to take place at Khanh Hoa Gymansium in Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province, from May 20 to 26, with the participation of 146 players from 16 units across the country.

With many new features in terms of both the expertise and organisational work, this year’s championship is expected to bring many interesting experiences for the enjoyment of table tennis fans.

Excluding the unexpected absence of reigning women’s singles champion Nguyen Thi Nga (Hanoi team) due to injury, the 2019 competition will bring together most of the country’s leading players, namely Nguyen Anh Tu, Dinh Quang Linh, Doan Ba Tuan Anh, Mai Hoang My Trang and Nguyen Khoa Dieu Khanh, alongside young talents such as Le Dinh Duc, Bui Van Duc, Bui Ngoc Lan and Pham Thu Huong, who are hoped to produce some stirs.

The players will compete for seven sets of medals, in the singles, doubles and team events for both men and women, and the mixed doubles category. In addition, the organising committee will present prizes to the best young male and female players, as well as to the locality with the most animated table tennis movement.

Addressing the press conference, Deputy Editor-in-chief of Nhan Dan newspaper Que Dinh Nguyen, head of the steering committee for the tournament, emphasised the significance, quality and prestige of the Nhan Dan Newspaper National Table Tennis Championship.

“The tournament contributes to evaluating the quality of table tennis training in provinces, cities and branches; offers the chance for Vietnamese players to accumulate competition experience and sharpen their skills; and allows the Vietnam Table Tennis Federation to discover and select qualified players for national teams, towards the 30th SEA Games and other important international competitions in 2019,” he said.

As scheduled, the draw for the seven events will be held on May 18, two days before the opening ceremony, at Khanh Hoa Gymnasium.
