Both teams headed into the match with high precaution, especially Saigon FC who had not achieved positive results in the past few away games.

The guests proactively played defensively with five defenders making the starting lineup, which prevented Becamex Binh Duong from creating any clear-cut opportunities despite their better ball possession in the opening 20 minutes.

Wander Luiz came close to opening the scoring for the home side in the 28th minute as his header unexpectedly hit the side netting.

The second half continued to be played at a low tempo, with few scoring chances created by both sides.

It was not until the 81st minute that the deadlock was broken, as forward Victor Mansary converted Tan Tai’s cross with a close-range touch, thus sealing a precious win for Becamex Binh Duong.

The victory serves as a needed source of encouragement for manager Nguyen Thanh Son’s side ahead of the upcoming matchdays after a disappointing four-game run of just draws and losses.
