Chau Tuyet Van, Nguyen Thi Le Kim, Nguyen Thien Phung, Le Thanh Trung and Hua Van Huy claimed the only gold medal for Vietnam in the team creative poomsae (demonstration) event, attaining the highest score of 7.900.

Such a positive result was a good sign for Vietnamese taekwondo en route to the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in the Philippines, where the creative poomsae category will make its debut.

In the men’s individual poomsae discipline, Nguyen Dinh Khoi scored 7.700 points to clinch the silver medal, behind Lin Yu-han of Chinese Taipei.

On the final day of competition, Truong Thi Kim Tuyen managed to bring home a combat bronze medal for Vietnam after losing 3-13 to an opponent from the Republic of Korea.

The tournament, which took place from June 7 to 9, brought together many of the world’s leading taekwondo fighters from around the world. It offered a chance for Vietnamese athletes to accumulate more points in their hunt for a spot at the 2020 Olympics.
