After Hanoi FC’s away 1-1 draw with the Philippines’ Ceres Negros, domestic fans were expecting Becamex Binh Duong to attain a positive result while hosting PSM Makasar at Go Dau Stadium on Wednesday.

With the home-field advantage, Nguyen Thanh Son’s troops played offensively right from the start and created a host of opportunities in the first half, but none were successfully converted.

On the opposite side, PSM Makasar were forced to play on the defence and produced little stir in the first 45 minutes.

After the break, Becamex Binh Duong had to play with only ten men after Trung Tin was sent off for an indirect red card. PSM Makasar made use of the advantage to strengthen their attacks in the hope of breaking the deadlock. However, the Indonesians also failed to capitalise on their created chances.

Becamex Binh Duong manage to win despite playing with only 10 men in the second half.

Stuck in netting the ball, manager Nguyen Thanh Son decided to put Nguyen Tien Linh onto the field seeking to enhance Binh Duong’s offensive power. The Vietnam U23 forward lived up to expectations, firing a strong header in the 80th minute to open the scoring for the hosts.

With time running out, B. Binh Duong proactively tightened their defence on the home ground, making it difficult for PSM Makasar to approach the goal of keeper Duc Cuong. According to statistics, the Indonesian side produced 10 shots but none of them were converted into a goal.

By clinching a home victory with a clean sheet, B. Binh Duong have put a foot in the door for the final match of the ASEAN zone. Nguyen Thanh Son’s side now hold a big advantage ahead of the semifinal return leg in Indonesia on June 26.
