Int’l table tennis tournament opens in Vinh Long

The 4th Vinh Long International Table Tennis Tournament, 2019, opened on June 28 at the Gymnastics and Sports Arena of Mien Tay Construction University in the Mekong Delta province of Vinh Long.

The event attracts the participation of five foreign teams - Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and Guangxi (China), along with 44 teams representing 20 provinces, cities and units across the country, with 258 players.

The participants will compete in six categories, including men’s and women's team events, men's and women's singles events, men's team for local clubs, and the team event for Mekong Delta clubs.

After three seasons, the tournament has attracted multiple leading players of Vietnamese table tennis, as along with those from the national teams in Southeast Asia and the continent.

It aims to encourage and promote physical training and sports movement in the Mekong Delta region and across the country, thereby contributing to improving professional achievements for the national team to prepare for their next international campaigns.

After the opening ceremony, the first matches were played in the men’s team event.

The tournament will wrap up on the afternoon of June 30.
