Manchester derby to kick off women's Super League season

The 2019-20 Women's Super League season will begin with a Manchester derby after the FA announced on Monday the first round of fixtures to take place over the weekend of September 7-8.

* Former Japan coach Akira Nishino has been named the new head coach of Thailand to try to lead the country into a first World Cup finals, the Thai football association announced on Monday.

* Aston Villa have signed former England Under-21 international Matt Targett from Southampton, the newly-promoted Premier League club said on Monday. Villa did not disclose the fee but British media reported that they paid Southampton an initial 11 million pounds for Targett.

* Southampton have signed striker Danny Ings from Liverpool on a permanent deal after an impressive loan spell at St Mary’s, the Premier League club said on Monday.

* Former Olympic rowing champion Marnie McBean has been named Canada's chef de mission for the 2020 Tokyo Summer Games, the Canadian Olympic Committee said on Monday.

* Sri Lanka beat West Indies by 23 runs in the Cricket World Cup on Monday (Jul 1) as Nicholas Pooran's counter-attacking knock of 118 went in vain for the Caribbean side.

* Serbia named Ljubisa Tumbakovic as their new manager on Monday and the 66-year-old former Montenegro boss will make his debut against European champions Portugal in a Euro 2020 qualifier on September 7.

* Inter Milan said on Monday they had signed former Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin on a three-year deal.
