* Former champions Maria Sharapova and Garbine Muguruza crashed out of Wimbledon in quick succession on Tuesday as big-name casualties continued to pile up, but twice winner Petra Kvitova made sure she did not join them. Russian Sharapova was trailing 4-6 7-6(4) 5-0 to Pauline Parmentier of France when she retired injured. Spaniard Muguruza was knocked out 6-4 6-4 by Brazilian qualifier Beatriz Haddad Maia. Czech Kvitova proved more reliable, easing into the second round with a 6-4 6-2 defeat of Tunisian Ons Jabeur, Africa's sole representative in the women's draw.
* Inter Milan have brought in Sassuolo's Italy midfielder Stefano Sensi on loan, the Serie A club said on Tuesday. Italian media said Inter paid a loan fee of 5 million euros for the 23-year-old, with the option to make the transfer permanent for 25 million euros.
* Tottenham Hotspur have signed midfielder Tanguy Ndombele from Olympique Lyonnais on a six-year deal, the Premier League club said on Tuesday. Spurs paid 60 million euros for the 22-year-old, with incentives worth an extra 10 million euros, eclipsing the club-record fee of 42 million pounds they paid for defender Davinson Sanchez in 2017.
* The exodus of men's seeds continued at Wimbledon on Tuesday as Austrian Dominic Thiem exited in the first round for the third time in six visits, beaten by American Sam Querrey. Thiem, the fifth seed, reached the French Open final for the second year running last month but his heavy topspin game is less effective on grass and Querrey took full advantage to win 6-7(4) 7-6(1) 6-3 6-0.
* Tunisia continued their uninspiring showing at the Africa Cup of Nations in a 0-0 draw with Mauritania at the Suez Stadium on Tuesday but a third successive stalemate was enough to clinch second place in Group E and a place in the last 16. Tunisia, ranked second on the continent and playing in a record-equalling 14th successive Cup of Nations, finished runners-up to Mali in the section and will now meet Ghana in Ismailia on Monday in the knockout round.
* Britain's Andy Murray ended days of speculation about who he will play mixed doubles with at Wimbledon after confirming he would partner Serena Williams at the grasscourt major. Murray's management team confirmed the news on Tuesday.
* A majestic strike by Mali midfielder Amadou Haidara secured a 1-0 win over Angola as they won their group, eliminated their opponents at the Africa Cup of Nations on Tuesday and also sent South Africa into the last 16. Haidara rifled home from outside the penalty area in the 37th minute as Mali, one of the tournament's dark horses, set up an intriguing knockout-round clash with neighbours Ivory Coast.
* It was the "super salty" blockbuster clash tennis fans around the world wanted to see and Nick Kyrgios and Rafael Nadal duly obliged on Tuesday by setting up a second-round showdown at Wimbledon. Nadal dispatched Japanese Yuichi Sugita 6-3 6-1 6-3, while Kyrgios was almost on his best behaviour as he secured a 7-6(4) 3-6 7-6(10) 0-6 6-1 win over his compatriot Jordan Thompson.
* Christian Atsu has been ruled out of the rest of the Africa Cup of Nations with a hamstring tear, officials said on Tuesday. He has returned to England for treatment at his club Newcastle United, hours before Ghana were due to complete their Group F campaign against Guinea Bissau in Suez. Atsu went off just 15 minutes into Ghana’s goalless draw against Cameroon in Ismailia on Saturday and doctors have said he is unable to play the rest of the tournament.
* French side Paris St Germain have signed midfielder Pablo Sarabia from Sevilla on a five-year deal, the Ligue 1 champions said on Tuesday, potentially paving the way for a move away from the club by Brazilian star Neymar. The Spanish attacking midfielder had 23 goals and 17 assists for Sevilla in all competitions including Europa League qualifiers last season.
* Netherlands international striker Luuk de Jong has moved to Sevilla from PSV Eindhoven in a 15-million euro deal, signing a four-year contract, the Dutch club said on Tuesday. De Jong, 28, scored 112 goals in 204 matches for PSV over the last five seasons, in which they won three Dutch league titles, and was the joint top scorer in last season’s Dutch league with 28 goals.
* Rafa Benitez has been unveiled as the new head coach of Chinese Super League club Dalian Yifang, with the former Newcastle United and Liverpool boss replacing Choi Kang-hee at the helm. Benitez, who left Premier League side Newcastle after failing to agree a contract extension at the end of last month, takes over a team that is in 10th in the CSL following a 3-1 win over fellow strugglers Beijing Renhe on Saturday.

* Arsenal have signed teenage forward Gabriel Martinelli from Brazilian Serie D outfit Ituano, the Premier League club said on Tuesday. According to media reports, the 18-year-old was secured for a transfer fee of six million British pounds.
* Elite club teams from China and Japan are bound for a showdown in the AFC Champions League quarterfinals following the draws made on Tuesday. The four teams from the East Zone - title holders Kashima Antlers as well as 2017 champions Urawa Red Diamonds, both from Japan and China's Guangzhou Evergrande FC, the 2015 winners, and Chinese Super League Champion Shanghai SIPG - confirmed their places at the quarterfinals after a thrilling round of 16 stage.
