Ferrari make the first pick for F1 Pro Series

Debutants Ferrari were given first pick in the Pro Draft for the 2019 Formula One esports series on Wednesday and chose Italian gamer David Tonizza to race for them against the other nine teams. Ferrari were the only absentees last year, with Formula One's oldest, most successful and glamorous brand reserving judgement.

* West Ham United have signed French striker Sebastien Haller from Bundesliga team Eintracht Frankfurt for an undisclosed club record fee, the Premier League club said on Wednesday (Jul 17). The 25-year-old joins on a five-year deal with an option of a further year, becoming the Londoners' fourth signing of the close season.

* England full backs Kieran Trippier and Danny Rose have been left out of Tottenham Hotspur's pre-season squad for their tour of Asia. Spanish and British media reported Trippier, 28, is on the verge of a move to Atletico Madrid in a deal worth 20 million pounds.

* Paul Pogba shined as an under-pressure Manchester United stepped up their pre-season campaign with a 4-0 thrashing of old rivals Leeds on Wednesday (Jul 17).

* AS Roma have signed Italy defender Gianluca Mancini from Atalanta in a deal that could be worth up to EUR23 million (£20.7 million), the Rome-based Serie A club said on Wednesday

* England right-back Kieran Trippier has joined Atletico Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur, the Spanish club said on Wednesday (Jul 17). Spanish and British media said Atletico were paying Spurs a fee of €22 million (US$24.7 million).

* Canadian duo Brooke Henderson and Alena Sharp took the first round lead at the LPGA Tour's inaugural Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational tournament on Wednesday, with a five-under-par 65.

* Celtic cruised through to the second qualifying round of the Champions League after a 2-1 win over Sarajevo in Glasgow saw them progress 5-2 on aggregate.
