Coach Mai Duc Chung made three adjustments to the Vietnamese lineup that thrashed Cambodia with ten unanswered goals two days ago, with goalie Tran Thi Kim Thanh and two midfielders Duong Thi Van and Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung being put onto the field.

The resounding opening win strongly boosted Vietnam’s confidence, allowing them to take absolute control right from the outset.

The two-times champions needed only two minutes to find the back of the net, with Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy beating the Indonesian keeper on the rebound.

Captain Huynh Nhu doubled the lead for Mai Duc Chung’s side in the 19th minute before Pham Hai Yen made it 3-0 just two minutes later.

In the remainder of the first half, striker Huynh Nhu netted two additional goals to complete her second hat-trick in this year’s tournament and hand Vietnam a 5-0 lead into half-time.

After the break, Vietnamese women proactively slowed down their pace, but still managed to score twice thanks to Tuyet Dung (61’, 63’), thus clinching a convincing 7-0 triumph.

The second successive win has ensured Vietnam a top-two place in Group B and also an early berth in the semifinals although Mai Duc Chung’s troops have one group match in hand.

The encounter between Vietnam and Myanmar on August 20 will decide the top spot of Group B.
