According to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), the Government leader asked VFF Vice President Tran Quoc Tuan to convey his congratulatory message to head coach Mai Duc Chung and his players immediately after they outplayed hosts Thailand 1-0 in a nail-biting thriller on August 27 to claim the AFF Cup trophy for the third time in history.

PM Phuc praised the brave fighting spirit of Vietnamese women as well as their utmost efforts to clinch the victory in a convincing fashion, wishing them to reap further success in the future.

On the occasion, the PM also voiced his hopes that the men’s national team will build on their female colleagues’ success to obtain a positive result against Thailand in their World Cup qualifying match next Thursday.

VFF Vice President Tran Quoc Tuan said that the President of the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) also congratulated the VFF and the Vietnam women’s team during a working session with him after the final match was played.

Concluding their AFF Cup campaign in a convincing manner, Mai Duc Chung’s side has received VND1.3 billion (US$55,900) in bonuses from the VFF, including VND600 million for the overall crown, VND300 million for the semifinal berth and VND400 million for reaching the final.

As planned, the Vietnamese champions will return home today (August 28) and resume training with their clubs in preparation for the second leg of the 2019 National Women’s Football Championship, scheduled for September 13-October 4 at Ha Nam Stadium in Ha Nam province.
