Germany edge Northern Ireland to restore Euro 2020 order

Germany beat hosts Northern Ireland 2-0 on Monday to get their Euro 2020 qualification on track as they bounced back from last week's loss to the Netherlands in Group C.

* Croatia missed a chance to go three points clear at the top of Euro 2020 qualifying Group E after a stunning goal by halftime substitute Tamkin Khalilzade earned Azerbaijan a 1-1 home draw with the 2018 World Cup runners-up on Monday.

* Ryan Babel scored twice as a rampant Netherlands claimed a comfortable 4-0 victory over Estonia in their Euro 2020 Group C qualifier on Monday.

* Belgium kept their 100 percent record intact in Euro 2020 qualifying Group I with a 4-0 stroll past a disappointing Scotland side at a subdued Hampden Park on Monday.

* Poland were held to a 0-0 draw in a top-of-the-table clash with Austria in their Euro 2020 qualifier on Monday as their lead in Group G was cut to two points after Slovenia's win over Israel.

* The battle over the future of the Champions League will resume on Monday (Sep 9) and Tuesday when the European Club Association (ECA) meets in Geneva and the leadership faces rebellion from members. ECA, led by Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli, is closely involved in proposals to reshape Europe's main club competition from 2024.

* Habib Cisse, former legal adviser to disgraced IAAF ex-president Lamine Diack, has been banned for life for corruption and fined US$25,000, the IAAF Ethics Board said on Monday.

* Australia's Ash Barty has reclaimed the number one spot in the WTA rankings less than a month after losing it while US Open champion Bianca Andreescu moved up to a career-high fifth after her maiden Grand Slam win in New York.

* Dutch rider Dylan Groenewegen claimed his second stage win in the opening three days of the Tour of Britain after holding off compatriot Mathieu van der Poel on Monday. The Jumbo-Visma rider triumphed in an uphill sprint finish in Newcastle at the end of a 183km stage from Berwick-upon-Tweed, backing up his victory on day one.

* Longtime US Soccer Chief Executive and Secretary General Dan Flynn, who is credited with turning around the finances of the federation, will step down from his position on Sept. 16, the governing body said on Monday.

* The US Soccer Federation (USSF) illegally conspired with football’s governing body FIFA to prevent foreign clubs and leagues from holding competitive matches in the United States, a lawsuit filed by a sports promotions company alleged on Monday (Sep 9).
