Park summons 32 players for World Cup qualifiers against Malaysia, Indonesia

Vietnam head coach Park Hang-seo on September 20 announced a preliminary list of 32 players called up to the national team in preparation for the upcoming Group G matches against Malaysia and Indonesia in the second round of the 2022 World Cup AFC qualifiers.

Accordingly, the Republic of Korea tactician decided to grant the opportunity to some new faces, notably including overseas Vietnamese striker Mac Hong Quan, who has impressed with eight goals for Quang Ninh Coal in the 2019 V.League.

Other newbies include To Van Vu (Becamex Binh Duong), Vo Huy Toan (SHB Da Nang), Dang Anh Tuan (SHB Da Nang) and Nguyen Cong Thanh (Ho Chi Minh City).

The remainder of the list features the players who made the 23-member squad for the Group G opener against Thailand on September 5, during which Vietnam held Thailand to an away goalless draw.

Quang Ninh Coal striker Mac Hong Quan (R) is among the new faces summoned by head coach Park Hang-seo.

As planned, the next training camp will last from September 23 to 29. The final squad of 23 players will be determined by head coach Park shortly before the two World Cup qualifying matches.

Vietnam will host Malaysia at My Dinh Stadium on October 10 before playing guest to Indonesia at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta five days later.
