Bournemouth move up to third after first-ever win at Southampton

Bournemouth climbed to third place in the Premier League as they won away at Southampton for the first time with a 3-1 triumph in Friday’s south-coast derby.

They profited from first-half goals by Nathan Ake and Harry Wilson but had to fight off a home resurgence after the break before wrapping up the points with a Callum Wilson goal to end a run of 15 previous games without a win at Saints. Bournemouth reached 10 points from their first six matches of the campaign with 11th placed Southampton staying on seven.

* Formula Two driver Juan Manuel Correa has been taken out of a medically-induced coma nearly three weeks after being injured in a crash that killed French racer Anthoine Hubert. A statement issued by his family on Friday hailed "a major step in the right direction' but said the 20-year-old Ecuadorean-American was still in a race against time.

* Amine Harit scored an 89th minute winner and set up an earlier goal as he steered Schalke 04 to a 2-1 win over Mainz 05 on Friday that moved them into second place in the Bundesliga. Leipzig travel to Werder Bremen on Saturday. Champions Bayern Munich, in fifth place on eight, host Cologne. Borussia Dortmund third on nine, travel to Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday.

* England's Danny Willett and Spain's Jon Rahm share a two-stroke lead at the BMW PGA Championship heading into the weekend, with both sitting at 11-under par after the second round on Friday. Willett, a Masters champion in 2016, enjoyed home crowd support and carded a seven-under par 65 which included six birdies and an eagle, offset by a bogey on the 14th in the European Tour's flagship event at Wentworth, Surrey. Rahm, chasing his fifth European Tour title, sank six birdies, an eagle and three bogeys to sign for 67.

* Italian soccer club Juventus aim to raise up to 300 million euros through a capital increase after posting a 39.9 million euro loss in the financial year ended in June, the club said on Friday. Juventus, which won Serie A championship for the last eight seasons, last year paid 100 million euros to Spain's Real Madrid to engage Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo.

* Team Europe took a 3-1 lead over Team World on the first day of the Laver Cup after winning two of three singles matches and the doubles contest in front of a sellout crowd in Geneva on Friday. Dominic Thiem and Stefanos Tsitsipas won their respective singles matches before Roger Federer and Alexander Zverev teamed up in the doubles, saving a whopping 15 of 16 break points to beat Jack Sock and Denis Shapovalov 6-3 7-5.

* Manchester City could turn to teenage defenders Eric Garcia and Taylor Harwood-Bellis to fill in at centre back with two of their senior defenders sidelined with long-term injuries, manager Pep Guardiola said on Friday. John Stones is out for five weeks due to a muscle injury and Aymeric Laporte is recovering from knee surgery, leaving Nicolas Otamendi as Guardiola's only available first-team centre back.

* Barcelona's teenage forward Ansu Fati is set to represent Spain at international level after being granted Spanish citizenship. The 16-year-old, who became Barcelona’s youngest-ever Champions League debutant after starting Tuesday’s 0-0 draw at Borussia Dortmund, was eligible to play for Guinea-Bissau, the country of his birth, as well as Portugal. Yet he has chosen to play for his adopted country Spain, where he moved aged six.

* A win over Manchester United on Sunday will go a long way towards helping West Ham United break into the Premier League's top six, manager Manuel Pellegrini said on Friday. West Ham beat United 3-1 at home last season and Pellegrini is hopeful his side can repeat that result with both teams currently locked on eight points in the table after five games.

* Indonesia will host a Formula E round for the first time next June with drivers racing in central Jakarta, the all-electric racing series announced on Friday. The race, whose planned temporary street layout will be around the National Monument in Merdeka Square, is scheduled for Jun 6, 2020, as part of season six that starts in Saudi Arabia in November.

* Rugby fever swept through Japan on Friday as Japan's Crown Prince Akishino declared the 2019 World Cup officially open at Tokyo Stadium, ushering in the Sep 20-Nov 2 tournament to Asia for the first time.

* Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll is likely to make his first appearance of the season in Saturday's Premier League match against Brighton and Hove Albion after shaking off an ankle injury, manager Steve Bruce said on Friday. The 30-year-old has not featured since rejoining the club on transfer deadline day due to the niggling problem and only began training in the leadup to last weekend's 3-1 defeat to Liverpool.

* Manchester United are still without injured trio Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw for Sunday's Premier League trip to West Ham United, while Daniel James is a doubt, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said. Pogba picked up an ankle injury in a 1-1 draw with Southampton before the international break, while Martial and Shaw not featured since United's league defeat by Crystal Palace on Aug. 24.

* Tottenham Hotspur Football Club has completed a 637 million pound stadium refinancing package that included a bond issue to US investors and a term loan, the company said in a statement. The English football club said on Friday it has raised 525 million pounds from issue of long-term bonds to US investors through a private placement, and another 112 million pounds from a loan from Bank of America Merrill Lynch, who also managed the bond issue.

* Playing at home for the first time since a match marred by racist chants, Cagliari beat Genoa 3-1 in Italian Serie A on Friday. The Sardinia side moved on to six points as Genoa stayed on four.

* Osasuna drew 0-0 with Real Betis at home on Friday to remain undefeated in its first season back in the Spanish La Liga. Osasuna are on a run of 27 games without a home defeat and might have taken all three points.

* Japan survived an early scare to win 30-10 in the opening game of the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Tokyo on Friday evening.

* Red Bull driver Max Verstappen set the pace in the first practise session for the 2019 Singapore Grand Prix, as Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas crashed on Friday. Despite complaining about the bumps on the Marina Bay Street Circuit, Verstappen set the session's fastest time of 1:40.259, with the twisty street track expected to suit the Red Bull package.
