Drawn in a relatively favourable group, Park Hang-seo’s side now stand a good chance to conquer the overall trophy, which they regretfully lost to Uzbekistan in the previous competition in China.
The biennial tournament, slated for January 8-26, 2020, will be hosted across four stadiums in Thailand – Chang Arena (Buriram), Rajamangala (Bangkok), Thammasat (Pathum Thani) and Tinsulanonda (Songkhla) – with the final to be played at Rajamangala (Bangkok).
The continental championship also serves as a qualification event for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, with the four best teams qualifying as the AFC representatives. If Japan are one of the top four sides, then the fifth-placed team will qualify.
The following infographic shows more details about the tournament's groups and venues, as well as the specific schedule of Vietnam’s Group D fixtures and their recent head-to-head records against the three group opponents.
