Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Arsenal on Monday in a Premier League game which was a poor imitation of some of the past classic clashes between the rival clubs.

* Former US Open champion Marin Cilic mowed down local favourite Yuichi Sugita 6-4 6-4 on Monday (Sep 30) to reach the second round of the Japan Open Tennis Championships in Tokyo.

* German second seed Alexander Zverev carried his Laver Cup winning form into the China Open as he sailed into the second round with a 6-3 6-2 victory over wildcard Frances Tiafoe in Beijing on Monday.

* ESPN+, Walt Disney Co’s sports video streaming service, will be the US home for the Bundesliga from next season until the 2026 World Cup after it acquired the rights for the German top league for a six-year period, the Bundesliga and ESPN+ said on Monday (Sep 30).

* West Ham United goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski will be out of action for at least two to three months after tearing a hip muscle in the 2-2 draw at Bournemouth over the weekend, British media reported on Monday.

* Kenya’s Beatrice Chepkoech stormed away from the field to win the 3,000 metres women’s steeplechase gold medal at the world athletics championships on Monday, making amends for a mistake that cost her a place on the podium two years ago.
