Vietnam Television to broadcast U23 team’s matches at next year continental tournament

The Vietnam Television (VTV) has officially owned the media rights of the 2020 AFC U23 Championship, becoming the official broadcast unit of the continental tournament in the territory of Vietnam.

According to VTV’s announcement, the television network will report live matches at the tournament – scheduled from January 1 to 26 next year in Thailand – on its VTV6 channel.

As such, Vietnamese audience will have the opportunity to enjoy all matches at the 2020 AFC U23 Championship free of charge through the VTV channel.

According to the specific details announced, VTV will exclusively broadcast matches on television and radio outlets, as well as on mobile devices and on the internet in Vietnam.

Along with that, VTV is also entitled to re-license all rights to the third parties, such as K+, VTC and other provincial television stations, to broadcast the tournament’s matches in the territory of Vietnam.

The U23 team extremely impressed in the qualifiers, as coach Park Hang-seo’s side topped Group K with a record of three wins out of three, including an impressive 4-0 victory over Thailand U23s, while scoring 11 goals without conceding any.

In the finals next year, Vietnam are in Group D with DPR Korea, Jordan and UAE. Park and his players will have their opener against UAE U23s on October 10, before facing Jordan U23s on January 13 and meeting DPR Korea U23s three days later.

This is considered a favourable group for reigning runners-up Vietnam, who target to be among the top 3 teams, meaning winning a direct ticket to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

The 2020 AFC U23 Championship gathers the16 best teams in the continent vying for the trophy. At the previous edition last year, Vietnam under guidance of Park caused a surprise as they finished second for the first time ever, only missing out on the trophy after losing 2-1 to champions Uzbekistan in the last minute of the extra time.

To prepare for the Thailand tournament, right after the Philippines 2019 Southeast Asian Games later this year, Vietnam U23s will gather on December 15, before heading to the Republic of Korea for a training camp.
