Magical Messi sends Barcelona top in Valladolid rout

Barcelona captain Lionel Messi scored two goals and set up two more as the Catalans thrashed Real Valladolid 5-1 to move top of La Liga on Tuesday.

* Atletico Madrid were held to a 1-1 draw at Alaves as Lucas Perez's sublime solo strike stopped the visitors moving into provisional top spot in La Liga on Tuesday.

* Holders Bayern Munich narrowly progressed to the round of 16 of the German Cup, scoring two late goals on Tuesday (Oct 29) to defeat second-tier Bochum 2-1.

* Sergio Aguero scored twice as Manchester City's much-changed side strolled to a 3-1 League Cup fourth round win on Tuesday over Southampton who seemed relieved to avoid a repeat of their nine-goal thrashing by Leicester City four days earlier.

* Late entry Kiki Bertens stunned world number one Ashleigh Barty with a comeback three-set victory (3-6, 6-3, 6-4) to shake-up the season-ending WTA Finals in Shenzhen on Tuesday (Oct 29).

* Bulgaria must play their next home game behind closed doors and have been handed a fine of €75,000 (US$83,000) after racist chanting by supporters marred their Euro 2020 qualifier against England earlier this month, UEFA said on Tuesday (Oct 29).
