Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Vu Hong Nam said that the number of Vietnamese people in Japan has been rising in recent years, making it the third largest foreign community in the country.

The Ambassador also underscored that the tournament, the first of its kind, is expected to help embrace links among Vietnamese expatriates in Japan.

The tournament attracted the participation of 32 athletes from Vietnamese representative agencies as well as Vietnamese students and guest workers from many cities and prefectures across Japan to compete in the men’s singles and doubles categories.

Duo Nguyen Tung (trainee) and Phan Tung (engineer) from Osaka won the first prize in the men's doubles while Nguyen My Hung, a student at Teikyo University (Tokyo), won the men's singles championship.
