* Real Madrid overcame an early howler from Sergio Ramos to beat Real Sociedad 3-1 at home on Saturday and stay level on points with La Liga leaders Barcelona. The 33-year-old Spanish international defender made a calamitous backpass within the first two minutes, allowing Willian Jose to calmly round keeper Thibaut Courtois and pass the ball into the empty net to put the visitors ahead and stun the Bernabeu into silence. Real, however, were back on level terms thanks to Karim Benzema after 37 minutes before running out winners with second-half goals from Federico Valverde and Luka Modric.
* Flamengo won the Copa Libertadores for the first time in 38 years with two goals in the last three minutes to come from behind and beat River Plate 2-1 on Saturday.
* Inter Milan kept up the pressure on Serie A leaders Juventus with a comfortable 3-0 win at Torino in terrible weather conditions on Saturday. Goals from Lautaro Martinez and Stefan De Vrij gave Antonio Conte’s side the halftime lead and Romelu Lukaku’s 10th strike of the season put the result beyond doubt in the second half. Inter are second with 34 points, one behind Juve who beat Atalanta 3-1 earlier on Saturday, while Torino are 12th on 14.
* Kenya's marathon sub-two hour man Eliud Kipchoge and American 400m hurdles world record holder Dalilah Muhammad were named World Athletics athletes of the year on Saturday.
* Olympique Lyonnais had Jeff Reine-Adelaide and Moussa Dembele to thank for early goals that secured a 2-1 home win over Nice as they battled for an hour with 10 men in a heated Ligue 1 clash at the Groupama Stadium on Saturday. Lyon held on to collect their his third win in four league games as they climbed to seventh with 19 points from 14 games. Paris St Germain lead the standings with 33 points after a 2-0 home win over Lille on Friday.
* Struggling AC Milan and Napoli ground out a 1-1 Serie A draw at San Siro on Saturday that did little to help either side’s plight. Napoli remain seventh on 20 points. Milan are up to provisional 13th spot although their tally of 14 points after 13 games is the club's joint-worst in the three points for a win era, along with the 2013/14 season.
* Rafael Nadal led Spain to the Davis Cup final as he and Feliciano Lopez won a thrilling late-night doubles to seal a nail-biting 2-1 victory over Britain on Saturday. In their first Davis Cup final since 2012, Spain will face Canada who also won a cliffhanger earlier on Saturday against Russia. Canada will be appearing in their first final.
* Serbia and France have both received wildcards to next year's Davis Cup Finals, meaning they will not have to qualify, the International Tennis Federation said on Saturday. They will join the four semi-finalists from this week's inaugural edition of the revamped Davis Cup, and 12 teams who will come through qualifying rounds in March.
* Jose Mourinho began life as Tottenham Hotspur manager with a 3-2 victory at West Ham United - their first away win in 10 months - on a Saturday when the Premier League's pacesetters Liverpool and Leicester City also took three points. VAR had a say in Liverpool's 2-1 win at Crystal Palace and Leicester City's 2-0 triumph at Brighton & Hove Albion.
* Arsenal forward Alexandre Lacazette's last-gasp strike rescued a point in a 2-2 draw versus Southampton in the Premier League at the Emirates on Saturday, a result that extended the Gunners' winless run to six games in all competitions.
* Bottom club Watford's miserable season continued with a 3-0 defeat to a clinical Burnley at Vicarage Road in the Premier League on Saturday. Watford have now gone 11 league home games without a win while the victory ended a run of eight away games without a victory for Sean Dyche's Burnley.
* Todd Cantwell and Dennis Srbeny scored a brace of rare away goals to give struggling Norwich a 2-0 win over Everton, a result which sees them climb off the bottom of the Premier League table.
* Wolverhampton Wanderers surged up to fifth in the Premier League with a 2-1 victory over 10-man Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday.
* Bayern Munich crushed hosts Fortuna Duesseldorf 4-0 on Saturday (Nov 23) to climb to within a point of the top with their third straight win under interim coach Hansi Flick while Bundesliga leaders Borussia Moenchengladbach suffered a shock loss at Union Berlin. Bayern moved up to 24 points, one behind Gladbach who were stunned 2-0 by promoted Union for their first league loss after three straight wins.
* Barcelona came from behind to snatch a 2-1 victory at La Liga's basement club Leganes on Saturday after another unconvincing display away from home from the champions as substitute Arturo Vidal struck a scrappy late winner. Barca won the game thanks to a fortunate goal in the 79th minute from Chilean midfielder Vidal, who was in a clear offside position when he knocked in from close range but a VAR review ruled him on as the ball had bounced off Leganes' Ruben Perez.
* Leipzig recorded their fifth victory in a row after smoothing the way for the 4-1 win over hapless Cologne at the 12th round in Bundesliga on Saturday. With the 7th win of the season, Leipzig remain on the second place whereas Cologne stay on the 17th position, which is a direct relegation spot.
