On behalf of the team members, Deputy General Director of the Vietnam Sports Administration and Head of the Vietnamese sporting delegation at the 30th SEA Games Tran Duc Phan emphasised the efforts and determination of the athletes to achieve the best results possible and bring glory to the country.
The athletes will stay in New Clark City, which is also the venue for many Olympic sports, such as athletics, swimming, shooting, archery, judo and wrestling, besides some regional sports, including kurash, jujitsu, sambo, water skiing and golf.
Vietnam’s SEA Games delegation comprises 856 members, including 568 athletes competing in 43 sports.
Vietnam set the goal to bring home at least 65 gold medals, with an emphasis on Olympic sports such as track and field, swimming, artistic gymnastics, fencing and wrestling, while the two men's and women's soccer teams striving to achieve the highest rank at this year’s event.
In which, athletics are still considered key Olympic sports and also a "gold mine" for Vietnamese sports at SEA Games, as they set a record of winning 17 gold medals at the 29th SEA Games in Malaysia in 2017.
Swimming is also very promising with elite names such as Nguyen Thi Anh Vien or Nguyen Huy Hoang.
At this year’s event, wrestling has been re-included and it is also among Vietnam's remarkable sports.
In addition, there are also other Vietnam’s strength, such as shooting, taekwondo, karate, fencing, cycling, gymnastics, boxing and archery.
As scheduled, all members of the delegation will join a number of important activities of the event, including the flag-raising ceremony on November 29 in Clark City, and the opening ceremony in Manila on November 30.
SEA Games 30 will officially kick off on November 30 and wrap up on December 12, with the participation of athletes from 11 Southeast Asian nations. About 8,750 athletes will compete in 56 sports.
