NDO – Vietnam have booked their place in the semifinals of the 2019 SEA Games women’s football tournament after seeing off Indonesia 6-0 on November 29 to temporarily top Group B with four points, three clear of Thailand who still have one game in hand.

Tuyet Dung, Nguyen Thi Van and Huynh Nhu scored a brace each to send Vietnam through to the last four and bring Mai Duc Chung’s side one step closer to the goal of defending their SEA Games title in the Philippines.

After being held to an opening 1-1 draw by Thailand, Mai Duc Chung’s side would need to beat the Indonesian opponents to make sure to reach the last four without having to care about the result of the Thailand-Indonesia clash this December 2.

Given that fact, Vietnamese players started the Friday match strongly and did not hide their ambition to clinch the full three points.

The reigning champions proved too strong for underdogs Indonesia as they needed only eight minutes to go ahead, with forward Tuyet Dung driving a low left-wing freekick that flied through some players of both teams and found the back of the net.

Tuyet Dung (no. 7) contributes a double and two assists in Vietnam's resounding win against Indonesia.

Vietnam missed a bunch of opportunities to widen their gap before Nguyen Thi Van made it 2-0 for the title holders in the 15th minute heading home a cross from Tuyet Dung in a freekick situation.

Hai Yen came close to blasting Vietnam’s third goal two minutes later with a rebound off the post despite facing the empty net.

Immediately after Hai Yen’s wasted chance, Nguyen Thi Van completed her double, as Indonesia keeper Norffince worked hard to block Tuyet Dung’s freekick from a narrow angle but she could not prevent Van from slotting in a rebound to gift Mai Duc Chung’s troops a three-goal lead going into halftime.

The defending champions maintained their dominance after the break, and continued to put salt on Indonesia’s wounds by scoring three additional goals.

Substitute Huynh Nhu got on the scoresheet only four minutes after coming off the bench before completing her brace 12 minutes later with a comfortable close-range shot into the empty net.

Huynh Nhu (no. 9) scores two consecutive goals only 16 minutes after coming off the bench.

It was not until the 85th minute that Indonesia’s nightmare stopped, as Tuyet Dung curled a shot toward the far corner to seal a fabulous 6-0 win for Mai Duc Chung’s side.

With the emphatic victory, Vietnam have been guaranteed a place in the semifinals regardless of the result of the last group match between Thailand and Indonesia, scheduled for December 1.
