Vietnam had already been guaranteed the title as top seed Daniel Cao Nguyen and Ly Hoang Nam both outclassed their semifinal opponents on Thursday, thus making today’s final a ‘Vietnam derby’.

Losing against Nam in the decisive match, Daniel pocketed a silver for Vietnam at the ongoing 30th SEA Games in the Philippines.

Earlier, Savanna Ly Nguyen became the first Vietnamese tennis player to qualify for the SEA Games women’s singles final following her semifinal victory against Priska Madelyn Nugroho of Indonesia.

However, the 19-year-old girl succumbed to a 0-6 5-7 defeat against no. 2 seed Aldila Sutjiadi (Indonesia) in the title match, thus settling for a silver medal.
