Vietnam made the last four in the Philippines after an amazing unbeaten group-stage run, including four wins and one draw against Thailand, sent them through as the Group B winners. Meanwhile, Cambodia produced a big surprise in this year’s SEA Games by qualifying for the semis as the runners-up in Group A.
“Tomorrow’s match is significant because a victory will lift us through to the title decider. But it also promises to be a tough game, as Cambodia played a clash fewer and had one day off more than Vietnam. We are disadvantageous in terms of fitness. So, we have to fight with a strong spirit,” Park told reporters.
When asked if he has sought ways to “spy” on the Cambodian team to get further information, the Republic of Korea tactician emphasised: “I assure you that we never send spies on the opponents’ training sessions. We only watch Cambodia’s matches in Group A like we do with other teams, and we also have video tapes to serve our professional work. I think the Vietnamese media are the same. They are too busy with the activities of the Vietnamese team and will not do something like that.”
Concerning Vietnam’s preparations for the semifinal, Park said: “We have to evaluate how many percent the players have recovered their fitness, then see how the injured players are treated and their playing possibility. I think everyone already knows that the players’ fitness has been considerably eroded. It is likely that we will have to play with our spirit.”

Speaking at the press conference, Cambodia coach Felix Dalmas admitted Vietnam are a strong team, stating that his side are looking forward to confronting Park’s troops in the semifinals.
“Vietnam are very strong and have a qualified coach. Undoubtedly, tomorrow’s match will be the biggest challenge to Cambodia since the beginning of the tournament, but I believe we can address it. What I and my players need to do is to make the best possible preparations and head into the clash with the highest fighting spirit and desire for victory.”
The semifinal between Vietnam and Cambodia is scheduled to take place at the Rizal Memorial Stadium at 7pm on December 7.
