Vietnam wins five more gold medals to hit 79

Vietnam’s gold medal tally at the 30th SEA Games was increased to 79 with five additional titles won in kickboxing, athletics and taekwondo on the evening of December 9.

Nguyen Thi Hang Nga finished off her Philippine opponent Dacquel Renalyn 2-1 in the women’s 48kg full contact final to clinch the first kickboxing gold for Vietnam, before Pham Ba Hoi snatched the second defeating another Philippine athlete, Balangui Jomar, in the men’s 54kg low kick final.

Duong Van Thai and Dinh Thi Bich helped Vietnamese athletics dominate the 800m distance winning the men’s and women’s race with respective times of 1:49.91 and 2:07.16.

Tran Thi Anh Tuyet brought home the fifth gold for Vietnam’s taekwondo team by outclassing Indonesia’s Halinda Mariska 26-8 in the women’s -53kg (bantam) final.

In addition, Vietnam secured five silver medals this evening thanks to Truong Dinh Hoang (boxing, men’s light heavyweight 81kg), Nguyen Manh Cuong (boxing, men’s middleweight 75kg), Khuat Phuong Anh (athletics, women’s 800m), Do The Kien (billiards, men’s singles 10-ball pool) and the women’s volleyball team.

Also, nine more bronzes were won by Vietnamese athletes in boxing (women’s light flyweight 48kg, men’s lightweight 60kg), swimming (men’s 4x100m medley relay), taekwondo (men’s -54kg, men’s -63kg), athletics (women’s 4x100m relay, women’s high jump) and E-sports (arena of valor, Dota 2).
