Jesus double helps Man City inflict first defeat on Ancelotti

Two goals from Gabriel Jesus helped a nervy Manchester City earn a 2-1 victory over Everton at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, as new Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti suffered his first Premier League defeat.

* Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says Japan forward Takumi Minamino is in contention to make his debut in Sunday's FA Cup derby against Everton. Minamino has arrived in a £7.25 million transfer from Red Bull Salzburg and had his first training session with his new Liverpool team-mates on Tuesday.

* Venus Williams pulled out of the season-opening Brisbane International on Wednesday (Jan 1) after a "setback" during practice. The American veteran said she still hoped to play at the Adelaide International later this month ahead of the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the year.

* Portuguese champions Benfica have agreed a deal with Borussia Dortmund to sign German midfielder Julian Weigl for 20 million euros (17 million pounds), the clubs announced on Tuesday.

* Liverpool sharpshooter Sadio Mane is expected to become the first African football headline-maker of 2020 by winning the Player of the Year award in Egypt next week. The Jan 7 ceremony will set in motion a year sure to be full of drama on and off the field with 2022 World Cup and 2021 Cup of Nations qualifiers in the mix.
