PM encourages Vietnam U23s ahead of decider against DPR Korea

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has encouraged the Golden Stars to fight for national pride and push hard for a victory, in his letter sent to Park Hang-seo and his Vietnamese side on January 15, ahead of their decider against DPR Korea at the 2020 AFC U23 Championship.

Vietnam U23s concluded their first two clashes of Group D earning just two points after consecutive goalless draw, which puts them in third place, behind the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Jordan.

To stand any chance of advancing into the quarterfinals, Park’s troops will have no choice but to beat DPR Korea in their last group fixture on January 16 and hope the UAE-Jordan encounter ends up with either team winning the match.

“Over the past few days, fans and people nationwide have watched closely and showed their strong support the team’s display. You have fought bravely, standing on par with powerhouses in the region,” PM Phuc said in the letter.

“Entering a much more challenging match tomorrow, I and home fans wish the entire Vietnamese team confidence, power, bravery and creativity to make firm steps on the Asian arena. I do hope that you will fight your best to win such an important game,” he said.

Vietnam U23s have now been present in Bangkok to prepare for the DPR Korea clash, to be held at the Rajamangala Stadium. At 5pm today, Park’s side will have their first and only training session in the Thai capital.

Despite no longer seizing the autonomy to decide their fate, the Golden Stars are still demonstrating their never-surrender spirit and determination to fight their very best for a victory. That Thailand U23s have become the first Southeast Asian representatives to qualify for the knockout stage will give a strong boost to Vietnam U23s in their upcoming decider against DPR Korea.
